If you are always exhausted it’s a good sign something is holding you back
There are many things that can inhibit your success
The better you understand the inhibitors the easier you will be able to overcome the roadblocks holding you back.
- Everyone tends to become so caught up in their current day-to-day activities that they lose sight of what they really want in a lifestyle business.
- While others stay within their comfort zones and maintain their status quo, they can usually only look forward to a slow and frustrating existence.
- There are many fundamental things that influence building a profitable and sustainable lifestyle business and if you neglect them you will only have yourself to blame.
- Lifestyle businesses require resources too and managing those resources is critical to your long-term health and well-being and the long-term health of your business. This means managing people, time and money.
- Neglecting to pay attention to how money is spent, taking financial risks and leveraging assets can quickly turn to disaster if you don’t become financially
- Today, most successful people are constantly involved in conversations about the need to focus on innovation
- The key question often overlooked is what kills initiatives?
Don’t have a clearly defined direction?
Without a clear purpose, vision and objectives it will be very difficult to achieve your aspirations. A clear purpose and vision will drive your decision making along with you strategies and actions.
Focusing on short-term results and trying to maximise today’s profit can indicate a lack of long-term planning which is critical to starting and growing a successful lifestyle business.
Planning for a healthy pipeline of innovative ideas and opportunities for your lifestyle business is a key to achieving the vision you have for your future. It is important to make sure that all ideas and opportunities are progressed based on merits and not on misplaced emotions.
For every idea, opportunity or inspiration that becomes a reality for you, hundreds will inevitably be played around with, taking up your time, before being discarded. Having a clearly defined direction will considerably reduce your wasted time.
Without good planning, change doesn’t come easily to these who try to run their lifestyle business by the ‘seat of the pants’. Planning helps you to identify the potential inhibitors and ensure they do not impact any changes you need to make.
Due to the changing lifestyles and the complexities involved in doing business, more time has to be taken to assess your current business model and budget and their ability to deliver efficiently and effectively on your aspirations.
Procrastination is arguably the biggest inhibitor
From the very beginning when your idea is born, you can easily start postponing the starting point of its fulfilment for ‘better times’. You always have it in your mind but never take an action. It seems like you are waiting for some miracle, for some lightning of inspiration to strike you and make you act.
Once you generate an idea, invest some time in researching and validating your ideas and opportunities. The sooner you start doing something the sooner you enjoy the outcomes you are looking to achieve.
“I have a perfectionist mentality; I want things to be right. But I’ve had a little duel over the years with that mentality. Because it can inhibit you”. Jon Voight
Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task which needs to be accomplished. It is the practice of doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones or carrying out less important tasks instead of more important ones, thus putting off the tasks that will have the biggest impact on your lifestyle until some later time.
Don’t let yourself postpone anything important, learn to become action orientated. There will not be a better time to complete your first task. The best time for action is always now.
Self-doubt can ruin any opportunity
When you doubt yourself and your ability to do something it can become almost impossible to move forward. When you think too much, you usually end up with huge doubts, that can often make you change your mind.
All that statistics about failure, the negative media, your friend’s negative stories and even bad weather forecast can easily become the source of all your doubts.
Never waste time with someone`s failure story, except to reinforce success inhibitors to avoid. You should not be bothered too much by the risks. Maintain a focus on being inspired by the opportunities in front of you.
Do not let doubts change your mind and stop you from taking action. Focus on your first action, then the second and third and your self-confidence will start to rise. It might even feel like some super power is behind you.
Fear and worries stops most people achieving their dreams
All those accumulated doubts can easily transform into fears. Those feelings of uncertainty eventually make you be afraid of taking the first actions. Fear is the thing that paralyses you and stops you from acting.
The only remedy that cures your fears is action. Only via confident action you can enter your discomfort zone and expand your comfort zone.
Fear is what holds you back. Having taken your first actions you start to minimise your fears, and you are already well on the way to achieving your goals.
When you start going after your lifestyle business, you are going to start experiencing the feelings of fear and worry, and your mind will come up with lots of false evidence making the fears seem real.
- What if I’m not able to start my ideal lifestyle business?
- What if potential customers I am relying on say no?
- What if I start and it involves much more work than I expected?
- What if my friends turn against me or are jealous?
- What if there are more risks than I originally thought?
Know that fears and worries are just a part of the process and keep moving forward. Acknowledge your fears, they won’t go away until you do and you act on them. Talk to someone you trust and ask them if they’ve ever felt the same way and to suggest how I can overcome my fears.
Being overwhelmed with technology
Business technologies are changing at lightning speed. Unfortunately, most people don’t make it a business priority to keep up with it. They become overwhelmed will soon find themselves losing customers and falling behind their competitors.
As with anything else you don’t understand, take action to engage people who do and people who are prepared to help you.
Today if you are not using social media to help boost your business you will soon find out that the ones that are will be capturing a larger percentage of the market.
You need to create a system for continuous learning. You can do this by subscribing to newsletters and blogs or attending conferences hosted by the leaders in technology application.
You should consider keeping up critical business strategy, as there is so much that technology can do to improve your work/life balance and lifestyle.
Distraction is definitely one of the worst enemies and biggest time wasters. Staying focused and dedicated is crucial while working changing your lifestyle.
Every single accomplishment is about attention and commitment and you have to apply this with the limited time constraints that everyone else has to deal with, making management of distractions a priority.
Distractions simply kill your efficiency, effectiveness and overall productive capacity making your performance suffer. Each time you are distracted, your concentration diminishes. You lose ideas and thoughts that have been circulating in your head about something important. Distractions cause you to take your valuable time to fully restore your focus and start work again where you left off.
The only way to stay productive and constantly produce the results you want is to remain focused with all your attention focused.
Have a set time to work on your projects. Choose a place to work where you can be sure nobody will disturb you. Switch your smartphone off and leave no chances to be interrupted by unnecessary calls and messages.
Sometimes, workplaces seem designed to inhibit good work practices and break our concentration. Even when you’re overloaded with work, you’re likely to check your emails regularly, read social media or focus on cleaning up trivial tasks.
Not understanding the market for your ideas
It is amazing how many businesses don’t understand the market for their proposed products and services and the customers who will buy them.
Some people don’t understand that marketing is not about understanding the social media tools and other technology, it’s about understanding the people using them. The only way to understand the people using a tool is to be a part of their market segment. You have to interact with them directly to understand their motivation for doing business.
As well as understanding your own problems, frustrations wants and needs, so you must understand those of your customers. They will be moving targets and what you think they want today may be completely different tomorrow.

I see too many people who lack fun and enjoyment in their lifestyle. Their problem is that they are in a rut and don’t know how to get out of it leaving them with even more to worry about. If this is happening to you seek advice on how to move forwards and stop the worrying.
If you are not having fun, why should you become involved in anything? You will soon tire of a business lacking fun and enjoyment. Boredom and lack of enjoyment in business soon lead to health and other problems you neither want or need.
When you start your lifestyle business you should look at being in it for the long haul, so you need to be able to enjoy it for many years. Changing businesses is not like changing jobs, it can be very expensive, time-consuming and very frustrating.
