 It’s not the person with the best tackle who catches the most fish, it’s the person who has the relationship with the fish.

 

Relationships are built on knowledge which requires discipline and patience.

Planning and strategies are extremely important in building successful organisations. But decades of marketing experience has taught me one thing, without discipline nothing much happens.  Planning and strategies are useless if you don’t back them up with action orientation and discipline.

Sometimes I find myself answering the same old questions:

  • How is planning going to improve my content marketing?
  • What do I have to do to get involved in this content marketing stuff?
  • How do you sell products and services with content marketing?
  • How can small businesses afford to be involved in content marketing?

There is no silver bullet unless you consider planning and discipline. Without these two things and maintaining a devotion to old marketing methods the future will look pretty grim. If you don’t make a daily habit of doing the right activities your marketing efforts will fail.

In all forms of social media and content marketing, the rule is always the same. Find out what the successful objectives, strategies and actions are and keep repeating them.

It sounds obvious and simple, but it’s not as people get bored, they can’t resist fiddling with something that is already working, or new ideas take a long time to sink in.  Most people tire of doing the same thing over and over, but content marketing is something where daily actions can be critical.

Set some Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), take measurements and see that you achieve them on a consistent basis. If you can’t measure your performance you can’t improve your discipline

Take time to celebrate your victories no matter how small as this will reinforce the right disciplines. Most people require positive reinforcement.

Be patient, within a few months, you will see tangible benefits of your work in content marketing with new customers, new and old, a higher profile and the envy of your competitors.
