It is hard to get going if you are not receiving fair compensation for your knowledge and experience.

Everyone has gifts to share with the world

Are people taking up real estate in your brain and you are not receiving any rent?

If you’ve ever said to yourself, “I have all this valuable knowledge that the people really need to know, but how do I convince them to actually pay for it”, you won’t be the first.

No matter how important or necessary your expertise is, if you’re not aware of what to do with it, you’ll struggle to get others to see the value in what you offer.

The answer is a simple one

  1. Focus on the real problems and frustrations people have.
  2. Communicate with them in a language they will understand.
  3. Be reliable, practical, useful and helpful.

The problem isn’t really about figuring out to market yourself better or to necessarily convince people that your knowledge has value.

Who wants to become a writer? And why? Because it’s the answer to everything. … It’s the streaming reason for living. To note, to pin down, to build up, to create, to be astonished at nothing, to cherish the oddities, to let nothing go down the drain, to make something, to make a great flower out of life, even if it’s a cactus”. Enid Bagnold

The real obstacle is a common mistake many people make when they’re first getting started. Thankfully, a simple shift in your understanding of what you have and how it will address a problem, frustration, want to need of the people you seek to serve.

Making money from you knowledge

If you struggle with how to convince people to pay for your knowledge or how to sell yourself with more ease, this process will help you.

  1. Write down the key area(s) of your knowledge and expertise.
  2. Determine your hourly rate.
  3. Write up your knowledge into a draft.
  4. Use a system to manage your knowledge
  5. Select appropriate quality photographs.
  6. Keep it simple so others will simply understand.
  7. Have someone edit your material.
  8. Understand what content marketing can do for you.
  9. Create a website that will be easy for people to find.
  10. Market yourself effectively on social media to generate leads.

Be sure to follow up on the leads you generate. You can make money from your expertise online, and you can do it in your spare time. A next step might be to increase your income by becoming an independent consultant on your chosen subjects.

Don’t concern yourself about the type of knowledge and experience you have. It could be on how to train your pet snake, to growing spinach, running a community event, or the best places to visit in Southern Italy. It doesn’t matter there will be people who want and need your knowledge and experience and are prepared to pay for it.

The most important thing is to pick up a pen and paper and write your first words. Starting anything is always the hard part. Of course, if you don’t make a start nothing will happen. It will be hard to show enthusiasm and stay motivated if you don’t make a start.
